AfterWorld War II, many families were moving into new homes and buying
new appliances. During the war, Pacific Gas and Electric had an appliance
repair department but in 1948 they ended it, so John “Frenchy”
Asien left PG&E to start his own home-based appliance service
company. By 1952 John added appliance sales to his service business
and he opened the first Asien’s Appliance store at 2628 Mendocino
Avenue in Santa Rosa selling L&H ranges and Norge appliances.
Keep Your Wife in Hot Water!
John Asien added Whirlpool to his line, moved
to 80 College Avenue, and started advertising with the slogan “keep
your wife in hot water!” He expanded again to 950 West College
Avenue, adding brands such as Roper & Brown ranges. His son
Kenneth took over the management of the business in 1958, joined
by his wife Grace.
Now You’re Cooking!
For the next twenty years, Ken and Grace ran
the business using the slogan “Now you’re cooking!”
When their son Larry joined the business they moved to 1800 Piner
Road and added Hotpoint, General Electric and other major brands.
Ken retired in 1982 and Grace and Larry became the major stockholders
when they incorporated the business.
